grown up

grown up

A Poem by rhea
"

this is what (according to me) the leap into adulthood entails

"

You know how I knew when I was all grown?
That I wasn't a child or a toddler anymore ?

No it wasn't the house that now belonged to me,
It wasn't the fact I bought my own grocery.

It wasn't the bills or the Debts I had to pay,
It wasn't my job where I spent my whole day ,

It wasn't the money nor was it the loans,
It was simply the fact that I was now alone .

No one ran to me when I fell ,
No one kissed my wound and promised I'd get well.

No one cared if I had eaten or not,
No one asked if I was cold or hot.

No one picked me or dropped me on my way,

No one asked if I had had a good day .

And when I stood on the side of the road
there was no one whose hand I could hold

That day I realised that I was all grown

and I had to cross the road all on my own .

Wow. I am speechless. There is so much maturity in your writing. You have deep understanding and observation and it seems like rhyme comes easy to you.

self-dependence, independence all signalling adulthood, but none as much as spiritual independence. Nice poem. Very well written.
