Race for Humanity

Race for Humanity

A Poem by Aimee

Bruised arm, bruised face

It seems like I’m in a never ending chase

A war with myself, a war with the world

So I lie here on the floor with my back curled

Whimpering, sobbing, with the words I never said

Wishing I was gone, wishing I was dead

Laughing, crying, I’m losing my mind

A place of darkness you will find

Once you enter my mind, you will finally see

How depressed I could be

In this world filled with judgement and hate

And dying is everyone’s inevitable fate

Take a trip in my place

Have a taste of this race

A race for humanity, a race for acceptance

Maybe then you’ll stop calling me such a disgrace

With all the pressure on your shoulders

And everyone’s eyes on you as you try to doge boulders

Maybe then you would see

How cruel this world could be

I’ve survived this long, I wonder if you will too

Without any bruises or scratches like you said you would

In this world filled with never ending hate

It’s impossible society won’t taint you with a darkened fate

So good luck running in the halls of pain

In a never ending race with nothing to gain
