The Kings Soldier

The Kings Soldier

The Kings Soldier

I was sent to gaze upon you
to look into your eyes
To witness the death of a mortal
not a King who said he would rise

I was given the duty that day
to make your end very swift
To quiet the shouts of the people
not to give them God's greatest gift

I looked upon your Mother
and in order to calm her fears
I ordered them to turn her
as You were torn with one of my spears

I watched them carry your body
and leave You there all alone
in a tomb wrapped only in linen
and I helped with rolling the stone

I was also sent to inquire
about where your body had went
When the stone was rolled away
by an Angel your Father had sent

I found you with your followers
they were happy with hearts relieved
I just could'nt bring myself to it
for in a moment i almost believed

Oh, i followed after you, that day
Yes, all the way down to the sea
I sat down and caught your gaze
these are the words you spoke to me

To the Kings soldier that i was
To the Kings soldier that was there
You gave me peace and death no more
eternal life with no guilt to bare

Who is He that all of the elements
Stir up as he walks by
As a mighty wind, he arises
with lightening across the sky

With a shout all across the heavens
I could hear as He was lifted up
One day soldier, we will reside together
and we will drink from the very same cup!

Thank You!
i would never had thought of any of those Roman soldiers as having compassion ... the scourging, mocking, beating and crucifixion is wrought with stone cold brutality .... perhaps there was such a one who was not completely void of compassion ... and i appreciate the forgiveness Christ expressed when He said "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do" .. "forgiveness"... talk about holistic medicine eh!? ;) glad i found this to read first thing this morning ... lifts my thoughts and heart up

Angelea Paugh,
Your poem was a true reflection of the love we need. Just like your "Kings Soldier? we see that only one who would come to show His identity in human flesh for the saving of our identity. Jesus is the beautiful song and joined in. Lovely poem! blessings in your life and writing. Kathy
