Childhood is a luxury!

Childhood is a luxury!

A Poem by angelina neves

Childhood is a luxury we create
To put our notions of happiness
In the far away past
To justify today dissatisfaction

Over 20 million children have been displaced by war
Millions of children have suffered sexual violence
Raped, assaulted, and are used as sexual instruments
Trafficked to other countries to be sold to sex trade as slaves

Childhood, is a luxury we invent
When we find ourselves
Lost in the grownup world
Creating a space and a time
Of eternal love as if we had a paradise

2 million children have been killed in conflate situations
Over 6 million have been serious injured or permanently disabled
And multiple consequences occur to them
by being forced to flee their homes
Deprived of their support system

Childhood is a luxury
And for most children never existed
As they had only orders to follow
And a lot of fear and anger
Or adult wars they had to survive
As well as some sad parties to attend
With adults drinking away
Some incomprehensible dream

Millions of children are abuse and neglected by their caregiver
Through out the world from the so called “civilized countries”
only in USA, each year, an estimated 3.3 million children
are exposed to violence by family members against their mothers and caretakers.
in the UK most violence occurred at home (78 per cent)
40- 60% of men and women who abuse other men or women also abuse their children.
to the others “less civilized” those having no statistics made
We have children all over with grave psychological trauma,
malnutrition, diseases given to them by adults!

Childhood is a luxury
Of those who have time
To have a tender memory
Remembering a special ball
A hand security
A word that made them proud

More then 300.000 children are recruited and used as soldiers
In adults Armed Conflict
Many abducted and forcibly recruited by armed groups
Over de last decade

Childhood is a luxury

But

If we really treasure the ideal of Childhood
Why not bring this dream to our daily reality?

It would be so easy
And so good to all of us!

Just put an end all those stupid adult wars
All those unjustified discrimination
And relax, give up the stressful power
Of ordering children around
Let them play, sing and laugh
And learn about
Our most beautiful and friendly dreams!

"Let them play, sing and laugh
And learn about
Our most beautiful and friendly dreams!"
The truth of this poem is so raw and in your face.
The above should apply to all, we adults and children should play, sing and laugh, follow our dreams and maybe this will be better world for all.

I have so many thoughts on this subject that I can't even comprehend where to begin. Good write though. Strong and a necessary kick in the butt for many. Kudos.

This is so horribly sad. I don't want to face realizty but you threw the bare facts at us and we can't deny the truth...Very brave of you. I like the strength and determination you muster and all the readers have to feel as they experience this piece. Bravo! Cheers, lea

these numbers are the most recent i could find (from 2000 to today!) but there aren't many and most of the children's rights violation are "covered" by "respectable adults" full of themselves and their ideals of "saving the world"!
