My Lack of Courage

This one's for you. I saw it coming a mile away...and I've been trying to avoid it ever since. But it's managed to sink through and make it's way here. Accept it, or don't. It's still here regardless.

If I had the courage, 

I'd write you a letter.

Telling you everything.

And then I'd feel much better. 

 

If I had a backbone,

I'd say it to your face.

But I lack the valor,

The audacity and grace.

 

So I wrote you a poem,

And I'll post it here and wait.

And I'll contemplate your reaction.

My heart swimming in constant debate.

 

This is me opening up to you

My feelings nervous and raw

and I'm terrified of what could happen next,

But I've already started to fall.

 

If you don't feel the same way,

There's nothing I can do. 

I've known this for a while now..

And I'm kind of afraid, but...
