Lost Within Her Mind

Lost Within Her Mind

A Poem by lovelyricalpoetry
"

A story about my Mother-In-Law who lives with Dementia.

"

Misplaced memories of yesterday,
They’re just outside her grasp,
Fleeting glimpses torment her,
But they never seem to last.

Confusion constantly seeks her out,
She’s such an easy prey,
Her will to keep on trying,
Grows weaker every day.

Who are all these strangers?
And what is she doing here?
The empty life that surrounds her now,
Brings loneliness and fear.

When her thoughts are lucid,
She cries and wonders why,
Her family has abandoned her,
Left her here to die.

Death will come to claim her,
For it leaves no one behind,
But her fate for now is worse than death,
She’s lost within her mind.

The first thing in my ego centricity that I noticed is that we share in our style of writing. I loved the simple glimps into your world, thank you. I thought the poem was well written and clear. Sometimes poems are very challenging for me to understand. Then it is out with the dictionary, out with the encyclopedia and the work of understanding begins. This poem in simple language shared a concept few understand. This is art. Thank you for sharing. Barb.

I don't think many see Dementia as this way, but you describe it so well. The pure confusion and desperation for something familiar in this poem brings out similar emotions and touches me deeply. Excellent work!
