Of Paradise and Cages

Of Paradise and Cages

A Poem by Annie N.
"

She peers through bars, and with her eyes, she dreams of a faraway paradise...

"

In a gingham and checkerboard wasteland

Her ballad throbs on a gossamer tenor.

With melodies wanting lyrics she strides,

And so denies the birdsong

Of a short-lived splendor.

She dares not leave her paradise

Unto the wings of birds and fleeting seconds;

She dares not seek lyrics

In fear that words may set her free.

Caged,

Her happiness wilts,

Lifeless petals in a parched oasis.

Like the endless sunsets

And rolling hills that grow into mountains,

Imperishable snow

This eternal paradise is a paradise lost.

Freedom too, is its own nirvana

Wild and savage

Of first impressions, evanescent.

She peers through bars, and with her eyes

She dreams of a faraway paradise.

A amazing poem. I like the title and the story in the poem.
"This eternal paradise is a paradise lost.

Wild and savage
Of first impressions, evanescent."
It is terrible to look through bars and see what we can't have. Thank you for the excellent poem.

This is a beautiful bittersweet music... of longing and loss... of desires come undone... Your mingling of images is profoundly emotive and moving, creating a canvas of the deepest hues... Even in the agony, the last lines breathe winds of hope, if only in dreams... Amazing write.
