The Quiet Night and the Meditator

The Quiet Night and the Meditator

A Poem by Armistead Lindsey
"

underlining of specific words because of a contest: http://www.writerscafe.org/contests/Poetry-Challenge/53153/

"

No words, or phrases,

Just a still night.

A single body sat,

Draped in a coral shirt,

Leaning over the water's edge,

Toes tickling the cool liquid.

Nothing too hard to think about,

Nothing too simple to neglect.

A single body sat,

Not a worry in the world,

Next to the picnic basket,

And old wooden banjo.

No love, or hate,

Just a quiet night,

A single body sat,

Beneath the willow,

Protected from the world,

The busy streets,

And the noise of the car.

No companion, or nuisance,

Just the minds-eye.

A meditator sits,

For another round,

Another attempt at bliss.

A gentle breath,

The only sound.

Well done - I really like this poem. The structure that you impose on it adds to its strength. It is so laid back and your bits of random observation make it very authentic. E.g. coral shirt , banjo. How fortunate if we can reach this state of detatchment.
Superb work!

Alan

'.. A single body sat, -- Not a worry in the world, -- Next to the picnic basket, -- And old wooden banjo.-- -- No love, or hate, Just -- -- '

This is amazingly good.. and more. You've wrapped the given words in such a gentle flow of words as if you chose the vocabulary for yourself. Consequently, you display a fine knowledge and use of language, plus.. have created a truly visible setting and made it real. Love it.
