Eternal Love - Valdaro's Lovers

Eternal Love - Valdaro's Lovers

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

A spot of digging revealed this

"
Death loans them grace, so face to face
in lover's lock they will remain,
while analgesic love will sooth
to help disguise their final pain.

Into each others eyes they gaze,
entwined within a last embrace.
All grains of sand pass far too fast,
a tragic end, a tragic place.

And there at rest until the day
unearthed, a Neolithic find.
Valdaro's lovers see the light,
a sight which touches modern minds.

God grant them breath for one last kiss
then leave them to eternal bliss.

This reminds me of the final walk between artists Marina Abramovic and her lover Uley. Passionate, intense lovers who collaborated together on their radical art installations, they decided to part ways amicably in 1973- and the way to do it was very novel. Both would walk towards each other, from opposite ends of the Great Wall of China, for one lasting embrace, one final time- never to look back as they walked away from each other in opposite directions.

The past remains in the form of memory. Something that will remain, no matter how hard one tries. And that is something no one can take away.

And can the love and affect one felt for their love, completely ever go away? Does nothing of it remain? Not a wisp? Not a smidgen?

Answers to these will not need answers. Everything in life does not require them. Not when one has peace. Not when one has closure.

Not when Valdaro's lovers have their bliss in the knowledge that that part of their journey together is over. But the memories will remain.

Sorry, Christine, been a long day, but your write brought out so many thoughts. Some gift you have.

Best,
M.

......I have no words....my voice is in my awe!! This is a brilliantly constructed poem! Profound and engaging.

I must say, it would make the rhyme more complete if you used a monosyllabic synonym of "touches" - like "moves" (which would also add alliteration to the line), and thus be able to add a "the" and be able to singularize "mind".

Well done otherwise! Much enjoyed!

This is beautiful Chris. The thought and the images behind the words. I can picture those two, forever entwined, looking into the eyes forever more.
Sounds like they got their perfect ending, their happy ever after...or should that be happy forever after? :)

Chris - this is so poignant, so sweet, so full of love. You inspired me to Google to find just who these lovers were, or are. Thank you for the lesson.
