The Tide

The Tide

A Poem by Sean J. Dezse

The Tide

I look out and see people
People that like to be people

The people that walk down the street
Razor blades under their feet

Slabs of concrete thrust out of the earth
As if nature herself were committing suicide

And the roots of trees bending back this tide
The tide of concrete and sickness

I look out and see this world
A world that does not want to be

Razor blades under their first. It makes me think that you view the world in a way that even nature hurts. This is also a really nice piece. I hope you're submitting these in creative writing. I'm not sure if you need the italics. One way that you can draw attention to specific words is to keep them alone in their own line or stanza. I had to go back and re-read to see exactly why you titled it "tide," but it seems to me that you see civilization and human life in general as the only sickness, and it's so cancerous that it makes the earth want to die, too. You're getting good at this. ;)
