Abandoned

Abandoned

A Poem by Marie Harrison
"

A poem about growing up feeling abandoned

Abandoned

When I least expected change,

You abandoned me

You left me alone…

Discarded...stuck with strangers…

Constantly leaving me in danger…

I was scared…

I was lonely…

I felt duped over and over

Embarrassed to be repeatedly

Kicked to the curb

I was enraged…

Frustrated at your

Lack of respect for me

Now it’s hard for me to trust

So difficult for me to

Let go of people and things

If someone walks away

I want desperately to chase after them

Saying goodbye…

Is next to impossible for me!

My life’s constantly in turmoil for my

Fear of abandonment

When you leave me…

I feel so sad

If you to hang-up the phone…

I feel so alone

I’m always stuck feeling abandoned…

Or smothered

All because of

How you conditioned me,

 Mother!

I loved the twist at the end of this, and it most certainly caught me off guard. Our parents do have a habit of teaching us some undesirable traits but somtimes in the end we are offered a chance to teach them something they never learned. This was brilliantly penned and i loved the flow of this piece. The picture that you added with it was quite appropriate as well. I enjoyed every moment of this piece and had to read it twice to feel like i got a full understanding of it. Phenominal work!

I realy got that...feeling abandoned or smothered bit! The thing with this abandonment stuff (for me anyway) is that only the ones who are rejecting are wanted...whilst available people are walked all over...I guess its been a lifelong journey up to now realising...until I stop abandoning myself this thing is kind of self-perpetuating. Thanks your poem carries a message to others and lets them know about these kind of issues.

Whoa! what to write after reading this. Well written poem, with emotional bagage. I hope this write helped you, it had to be painful to write.

Very intense, but a deep powerful write, full of emotion and pain, and a sense of anger can be felt.

Wasn't expecting that last line at all, but very touching and deep poem. great job!

In our adult years we realize that the child's fear of abandon may be isolated into a part of us that is recognized as such. Then we are free of it. Nice write!

The way we are raised can make a big difference for good or not so good. As adults we can change the condition but its never easy. This is a really good write...painful but that is reality many of us can understand.

I had the opposite. I had AWOL parent. I was raised from a young age to be alone and learn to like it. I understand the poem desire and feelings. It is hard to get over years of training from a parent. I try to be quiet and allow my kids to grow-up without fear. I did like the ending to the excellent poem.

Very emotional write, We all have issues that we have to deal with some way or another...some more or worse than others. We seem to be or get "conditioned" by people and things... And some how for the most part we do deal.
You have expressed your emotions about this very well in this piece.
It is hard finding that inner peace sometimes, but when we do..its awesome. We also have to think/remember that the people that abondanded us had issues too and did not know how to deal.
Great piece Marie

This is just "ouch". Being left behind freaking hurts in the heart. Emotions are well painted in this poem. Wonderful.
