I Suppose

I Suppose

A Poem by chiyonatsu
"

eight out of ten.

"
I suppose I’ll say goodnight, tonight.
I suppose I’ll go to bed.

I suppose I’ll close my eyes, and review all that I’ve said.
I suppose I’ll fight with the record player.

I suppose I’ll lose my war.
I suppose I’ll turn on the television

And I suppose I’ll be ignored.
I suppose I tried to be good.

I suppose it all went well.
Of course, I suppose it also could have gone to hell.

I suppose it’s not too hard to imagine her with tears in her eyes.
I suppose I can’t fix that.

I suppose I spread myself thin, trying to make things right.
I suppose I may have frightened her, though I hope that’s not the case.

I suppose I’ll sigh and shrug my shoulders.
I suppose I’ll get her off my mind.

I suppose it’s a trifle weird, hung up on a teacher’s happiness.
But I suppose I’ve never been one to ignore them as human beings.

I suppose a lot of things,
But I suppose I’m never certain.

I suppose that’s just a part of me,
That I suppose will never falter.
