Lorianna

Lorianna

A Poem by Chris Laverty
"

A short poem

"

Would that I had the merman's fins and gills

to dive the kingdoms of the deepest seas,

then Lorianna - whose voice all creatures thrills -

I'd follow to the outmost Hebrides.

I call " she's always slightly out of reach,

though, in seaweed dressed, she swims nearby;

does she like not the shingles on my beach?

she does not answer me, I know not why.

And Lorianna broke a thousand hearts;

hearts she never knew, caught in her web,

that's woven with the ocean's charms, whose darts

ensnared them in the water's unseen ebb.

Instead I sit and softly sing alone;

and no sun shines for me the while I long

for Lorianna, in my home of stone,

that only echo's back my unheard song.
