for the poets and nightowl philosophers

for the poets and nightowl philosophers

A Poem by brianna vega

we lay awake at night

distance between us

yet connected by energy

we watch the world float by in routine

and comment on what we see

eyes open and never blind

we exist more in our minds

and while the world lives by light

we go on

thrive in the night

the air is cool

the world is hushed

the sighs they come

land in the plush

pillows where they keep their dreams

yet ours we speak

in not just sleep

our poetry it helps us sing

it says all that our lips keep

One moment you feel alone, like you're the only one that sees the world as you do, then you read the works of other poets and realize there is an entire network of people who see and feel and hear and think and dream just as you do, and you get that good feeling inside that you're not alone. Restores hope in humanity. Very nice piece.

thank you love
Ah, insomnia. This world is plain and limited, the redundant daily routine forces me to keep myself awake and create my own dreams as well, to convince me that I'm actually living. There's something about the nocturnal lifestyle that makes the world more... appealing. I mean, it's 2:30am and it's still early, but to all the squares it's "way past bedtime." People gotta forward the robotic guise and slave artificially. Screw that. The world needs people like us to express what others avoid and to stoke the fires they fear, so that they can accept our thoughts as their own and maybe have some sort of "individuality" from it. Insomnia might be a writer's greatest gift, maybe the dormant dreams of others linger through airs and walls for us to devour. This piece was put perfectly.
