Sweet DreamsA Poem by Ben Taylor
I stand upon an apex,
swaying amicably, blithely absorbing your volleys of abuse. I can see deeper than you assume, I can ascertain the root of these insults. You cannot hurt me in a way that will run me off. You cannot drive me away. The harsher your words are, the more concerned about you I become. When you are upset, I know it is not just me that you hate. How can I help? I see you swivel inwards, and attack yourself. I watch you research reasons to dislike the person you've constructed, but I can assure you that your scrutiny is misplaced. Trust is not a reason to become self destructive. You have something unique and perfect between those sea green eyes, you have something the rest of the world has yet to discover. I am afraid to grasp you too tightly, but I think it is fairly obvious that my self control is lacking. I've fallen in love the way drunk idiots fall from tall heights. I've broken into small pieces in front of you. Your vitriol will never be something that I run from. Please let me learn from my idiocy, so that I do not subject you to it again. Let me perfect myself for you.
