Wasteland

Wasteland

A Poem by ebonpinion
"

Thoughts and fears constantly surround and create an inner wasteland.

"
This wasteland that I live in
Feeds my darkest fears
In my head uncertainties
Cry out unshed tears

The howling never ceases
It rips my soul apart
Stealing my humanity
While darkening my heart

Alone I stand and wonder
Amazed at the decay
That constantly surrounds me
And keeps the light at bay

Trapped and with no hope
Of ever getting out
This wasteland is my home
Of this I have no doubt

You’ve done a great job in adhering to a rhyme scheme, kudos for that. Overall, it’s a decent work, but by the end one can’t help but feel at each stanza is simply a re-phrasing of the last. Each quatrain produces the same depressed, dismal dead-end street. The emotion is genuine, I guess what I’m trying to say is that it’s a bit heavy-handed. It would interesting to see if this could be re-written without words like: fears, darkest, tears, the dreaded heart-apart rhyme and so on.

Anyhow, that’s my 2 cents worth. Thank you for posting.

Regards,

E.M. Strand

A haunting write. "My wasteland is my home" what strong words. They have so many different meanings to me.

Very emotional and descriptive. I like it, not to long not to short, keep it up.
