Winter Eyes

Winter Eyes

A Poem by Eric Pudalov
"

Inspired by a recent snowstorm in Atlanta.

"
sestranded
on iceway 85
enveloped on all sides

multitudinous
miles
of pathways ahead
of which none
can be traveled

the crystal spears
begin to rocket
downward, in rhythm
clinkulating

slicing through glass
and grey framework...

I take shelter
in my shielded
cell, as the horns
blast across
the viaduct,
bouncing off of
flagstone and
into
nothingness.

and in that moment
I retreat
into the
silent house
within, where

a candle dimly
coruscates,
pirouetting through
the dark

illuminating hallways
inside the
breathing castle.

the lifebeats
are boundless
moving invisibly
in door-halls
with ancient keys

not of gold or silver,
but those that
can't be held
by human hands.

they cannot see beyond
the window,
but

my vehicle
begins to move
among the petroleum
sea.

we swim forward
like scorpionfish
crushing one another

yet the lantern
inside still
is lit,
and burns
in wintry hail,

its firetips
carrying
my body
inexhaustibly
through
time.

The word "sestranded" in the first line was originally a typo, but I liked the way it sounded. Is the poem missing anything? Feel free to comment or critique.

WOW!!! What an imagination!...and your brilliant diction blows me away!

Not only is this (candle) lit with whimsical wonderings of an adventurous fairy tale, but also weaves within the bone crushing ice storm...

Excellent write! :)
