A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Want Ads

the newspaper print

faded in the flood,

tears falling through the roof

yesterday's headlines

were about us,

about love

today as the rain pelts the tiles

i think of you,

and drop towels on the carpet

soaking up as much memory

as allowed,

before the rainbow accents the sky

and i find a long vowel

in the word, "missing"

two of them

just like there were two of us

but now just drips from the ceiling

a life that needs repairs

and a hope love insurance

will cover the damages,

thank God the classified section

stayed dry

even if i couldn't.

"thank God the classified section stayed dry even if I couldn't- I sense something hidden here, maybe wanting to keep "classified" some of the details of this hurt. I feel the loss in your words. This piece really spoke to me tonight.

We all need to stand in the rain sometimes. But in the words of Eric Draven "It can't rain all the time" ;) . Enjoyed the "It is what it is" quality of this piece Jacob.

I could see you standing on the roof, the rescue boat taking her away, while the waters engulf the soul of a poet. I'm offering a pleased life jacket for your soul. Float on my friend.

Happy New Year!

This is one of my favorite of your poems. Someone looking back on what happened and being grateful. It could be simple but somehow you make it so beautifully complex.

I love the reflection that goes on in this piece. the fact that the outside is the inside. obvious pain throughout but a lightness and a sense of humor about it. lovely to read your poetry...as I said in another comment...very inspiring to a poet always learning.

Really great Jacob. Yesterday's headlines survived the flood even if the relationship didn't.

This is remarkable writing. I was affected most by the missing vowel but the whole poem shows a kind of eclectic unity. you show the marks of an accomplished poet. TFS.

The imagery is perfect as is the metaphor of love lost . The title clever! I wonder on the insurance though!
