incarceration's portrait

incarceration's portrait

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

incarceration's portrait

restitution for forgiveness

is like prostitution of impunity

there is a sinister smile in the heart

when it knows we are undone

it beats, sardonically scintillated

because it understands

each pulse

is punishment

for the reckless abandon

of youthful excursions into love

and now as the beats slow themselves

to a bare trace

it is your face

that intercedes

and makes me think yesterdays

with you

might have been a crime

well worth the sentence.

is love ever a 'crime' Jacob??? I think we would commit such a crime and face whatever punishment might be handed down willingly.... I agree with Jimmy, a woman well worth the 'sentence'!!! my first wife was such a woman... and your poem make me think of yesterdays.... thank you for this...

Hard time and love...more often bedfellows than not. I think about the downside...and then it is always overshadowed by the fleeting upside. quite the original look at love unrequited.

"it is your face
that intercedes
and makes me think yesterdays"

More than a few words, less than a sentence... just perfect.... and true... Neville

Pleasure jacob and true....N
A "crime" worth the time; is or must have been quite a woman.
Your poem qualifies as a monumental compliment.
