The Spell of the Vim Bah

by Erin L George

At nighttime, Little Boy,

There are Vim Bahs

In the shadows

They lurk

Waiting for a taste of you.

Beware, Little Child,

Of their flimsy cries

Candy corn promises.

“Come here, little boy!

There are sweets to be had, Precious One!”

At nighttime.

Cotton candy dreams,

Blue raspberry

Stuck to his chin "

The carnival ride and the old fat Lady

Are tone deaf

And can’t sing.

Circus freak!

Spinning on the Dolly Wample

Grizzly man calling for his three sons:

“Get the bike!”

Brown bear climbing aboard

Riding round the circus ring

All aboard!

Absurd!

“Come one, come all!”

Only fifty cents!

(I wonder if he’ll throw in the smell of the plastic potty free of

charge)

He purrs, uncivilized

Has he even bothered to comb his oiled hair?

The Wom-Bom machine "

“Guaranteed!!!”

“Everyone wins a prize with me!”

Beware, Little Boy

Of the Vim Bah breeze:

Blowing on your curtains

They’ve been known to steal the stars

(And the covers too)

Juggling them in trees -

Keep covered, Child, your feet!

Spinning webs

Lies,

To lure you in with lullabies

And tales

Of other places, planets, and life forms

Into their world, you’ll dip your toe

Spinning soul!

Into their world you’ll go "

Turning into a Kim Kah

Eating of the Kim Kah feast

Mother doesn’t know

Whether to be proud or concerned

At least they tell you what to be

when your son throws on a uniform

Navy

Marines!

“Be happy! Be merry! Little Child

Come closer. We don’t bite.”

A Vim Bah will seduce you

Unable to put up a fight

Who can argue with moon beam rays

And smiles, the kind, where they are gritting

Their back teeth

Insistent all the same?

This was a great write... wonderful imagery and use of repetition. I had this in the Finalists during that half hour session of, "How in the world will I ever make a decision?" before I pulled someone else in to do it for me.

Excellently penned.
