Lately You've Been on My Mind

If I could have known

The trouble I've seen

Was the fault of my own

Then the world would not seem!

As bad as it's been

For I'd have no sin

All the wrong I did would be undone!

I know  I've been blind

And I've been unkind

But the reason I found

Comes deep from inside

And I know the trouble’s mine

And I feel like gettin high

For I’d rather be a sinner than a saint!

And Gettin highs been on my mind

And I can't be long without it if I try

And if tomorrow comes and these friends of mine have gone

Will I be alone the day I die?

What I would give

For one more chance

To show you that I was the one!

The one man for you

Who'll always be true

But I failed before I’d begun!

And the truth is I've lied

Because of my pride

It's the reason for the trouble that I'm in!

And the trouble that I found

Is I'm hard to be around

And I'd rather live tomorrow than today

And lately you've been on my mind

And I couldn't be without you if I tried!

And I've tried to understand

Why I couldn't be your man

And why I couldn't have you at my side

And gettin high’s been on my mind.

I asked the above questions many times in my life. I learn my Grandmother wisdom was true. Nothing good to say. Say nothing and we pay for every action done. Thank you Evan for sharing the excellent poetry.
