Grand Traverse

Grand Traverse

A Poem by James Paulin

Reigning supreme, breezy views of both bays

Clear waterfront space enjoyed at each pace

Fresh air breaths clean, inviting longer stays

Scenic ease to please, if life is a race

Welcoming smiles with most any meeting

Pure nature abounds with uncommon good

Harmony with all felt in each greeting

Respect for others and expect all should

Northern gem that adorns Michigan’s crown

Dunes with vistas or lighthouses to find

Attractions reach places far beyond towns

Splendor in sights with improved state of mind

Cherries of color and taste to apprise

Wine from the region considered high class

Strawberries, blueberries grace local pies

Produce and ice cream deemed hard to surpass

Boats with full sail, paddle or props hold forth

Fishing and hunting have outdoor appeal

Many golf courses invite coming north

Skiing, superb and huge snowmobile zeal

Hike wooded trails or mountain bike for miles

Water ski, ride waves or an air balloon

Cherry blossoms and fall colors bring smiles

Sunset, sunrise serenaded by loons

Theater, films and fine arts of each sort

Gourmet foods prepared by chefs at their best

Music, festivals and fairs of import

Diverse Traverse talent greets every guest

An attitude, an atmosphere that’s clear

Inspiring surrounds draw thoughtful glances

A place inside where our visions held dear

Panoramic, pleasant circumstances

such a pleasant tour, and such a relief from the pain of dreary circumstance that bogs the life of many of our fellows here at wc...thank you for the fresh air

After 38 years of working as an automotive design sculptor, I retired and have been doing a bit of fishing and writing poems. I've gotten better at both and had some recognition. Most of my poems are .. more..
