Miss Singh Is Missing

Miss Singh Is Missing

A Poem by Zoya

Being trapped in a classroom,
With an excessively talky lot.
Screaming and jumping like baboons,
Saying-"This is what we were taught"
The drums beat and the trumpets blow,
In unison they sing and dance.
Oh where did Miss Singh go?
To Japan? Or to France?
Duster and chalks are thrown around,
Shrill voices rupturing the veins.
The room turns into a playground,
They chase each other in chains.
My head aches- they're hooting and hissing,
School seems no less than a zoo.
'Cause Miss Singh is missing,
Can you tell me what to do?

The rhyming and musicality aren't spot on, I know. Just a fun poem. Some of you might find it relatable, cause I definitely do. My teacher's name also happens to be Miss Singh! Lol

Oh god! You made me feel the tension of a missing teacher. The moment I saw your read request I was sure I am going to read something great and this is it, thanks for the surprise. I loved the rhyme, I created a tone in my head and read this and it went great with tune. Keep surprising me. Truly, a very true reflection of a classroom of primary school children. Every kindergarten teacher can relate as well.
P.S I forgot to mention I loved the pun of Miss Singh and missing.

Was my pleasure and you are welcome dear friend.
I might feel very happy if my science teacher went missing in the high school. But, I like your concern to control. I don't know why but it seems like you bother more about classroom has turn into a zoo. Do you really think you shouldn't take advantage of your teacher gone missing. By the way it's a good piece of writing showing you a very sincere student... I really enjoyed the whole scenario because it remind of my high school days when I'd not done with my homework and I used to wish if my teacher gone to miss the class somehow.

lol.....you tapped into your inner Dr. Seuss, it seems. Nicely woven tale of a rambunctious classroom. And the rhyming and musicality are not as bad as you think, but yeah, some tweaking wouldn't hurt.....but I quite enjoyed this. Well done!

Much thanks, emi! Glad you enjoyed reading it :)
In a story form, I like how the poem displays the frustration of a student desperate to find her teacher to just get on with the class lessons and the normal school day, tired of playing around and eager to learn.

The rhyme scheme is wonderful in flowing together with meaning,
in a very relatable subject-matter.

WELL DONE

Certainly a relatable scene from my schooling days! Especially when the teacher left the room for whatever reason.

In such cases the once quiet room would almost suddenly erupt into a free for all party zone. Which evidently always seemed to recede when the token "lookout" in the classroom warned that the teacher was coming back!!

Seems to me nothing has changed in the classroom, regardless of country of origin!

Nice play on words with your title, Zoe. Very clever. I enjoyed this little trip down memory lane. Nice work.

Quite the job that 'lookout' is entrusted with, especially when the classroom has six freaking doors.. read more
