Mother

Mother

A Poem by flowerbaby18
"

A small series I'm working on in which I write poems regarding key people in my life.

"
DNA tells me that
I am a part of you.
That half
of my being
is yours,
but
the mother-daughter
relationship is one
of mutual love,
and respect,
and similarity.
I have
your habits imbedded
within me.
Everytime I wring my hands
the way that you do
I am reminded,
we are mother and daughter.
No wish
upon a star could change that.
I feel the temptations
in my bones for
the things you have shown me.
To be
a mother is to be selfless.
Everything you said to me
will stick, and
anything
you have done for me,
will have substance.
A mother is supposed to be
there
like
a permanent best friend.
You are supposed to be there
at least as a mother.
And yet,
you never seem to understand.
You
are responsible for another life.
