You Have My Copy of The Bell Jar

You Have My Copy of The Bell Jar

A Poem by Gabrielle Lyn
"

Are you my bell jar?

"
I never should have lent you my copy of The Bell Jar
You said you'd return it
But I haven't seen you at any places you usually are

I know it is just sitting next to your bed
It probably screams at you because it was never read
For as long as you've had it
Did you at least look at the underlines
And see a few reasons why
I always change
Jumping from one mutually exclusive thing to the next
And the only person I ever bring along is myself
So when I leave you behind
Don't be surprised
We both saw it coming
Since the beginning

You'll be left standing by a fig tree
Waiting for me
To come pick the fruit with you
Wearing the color Sylvia hates most: blue
As I sit inside
Watching you fight
With someone new
Looking back on everything you've done to me
That I used to believe were so serene
Was really just a pendulous swing
Between treacherous and guileless things
Are you my bell jar?
I never thought of it before
but maybe you are.

I like the correlation between the book "The Bell Jar" & the poem itself/writer. Your bell jar....trying to find your true self separate from others is hard business. Good Work!

I enjoyed this poem. It was easily read but still had concepts that made my mind move in directions that I appreciated.

The rhyming words made for a pleasant sound while read aloud.
