The day you left

The day you left

A Poem by New Dawn

It rained the day you left,

as if God had recognised our grief

and was crying along with us,

His tears growing from a trickle

to a river of misery

that flowed along gutters and flooded the drains.

We sat curled in our armchairs

listening to God's rage

too shell shocked to form

coherent thought

until the battering of the storm

became a pattering of rhythmic peace

and our tears dried on our cheeks

until sleep claimed us

rocking us gently into another day.
