If the poet, baby, you're the pen

If I’m the poet
Baby, you’re the pen
With vital ink in your veins
Scratching line after beautiful line
Of a sweet summer sonnet

 

If I'm the singer
Then you’re the song
With bouncing notes and lovely lyrics
That keep me singing all night long

 

If I’m the painter
You’re my brush
Running haphazard strokes across the canvas
Vibrant reds and yellows and blues
Beautiful, grasping hues

 

 

If I’m the lover
Baby, you’re loved
For through the day and the night
My heart is bright
And only beats for you

I think that you have many good lines in this piece. Your style is fairly sound. When I read this though I felt almost like the woman/girl in the piece was a possession of the speaker. This implies that the speaker is using the one he is speaking to. I think I felt that way because of the tone of the piece. I think that most of the poem creates a different image than the last stanza. I think that could be something that could be fixed. beyond that I thought your imagery was well constructed.

This is a poem which revived the literature age for me. I feel I am reading something which has been long forgotten. This is the way poetry should be, especially romantic poems. I believe you are a very excellent writer and your poem puts beautiful magnificent metaphorical images in my head. I was dispersed into the poem until I realized I was reading the last word, and then I felt sad that it was over. My advice for you is...Keep writing because I am one of the people who will keep checking back to see all your new written material.
