Just a thought scribbled... Anatomy of "Experience"

Just a thought scribbled... Anatomy of "Experience"

A Story by Saurabh
"

This is a lazy afternoon essay when I had pondered upon something in the past.

"

When we go down our memory lane, there are numerous vivid memories which makes us who we are at this juncture. Some left a profound impact on our thinking and upbringing, while others just drifted without much ado. Many memories still have a very deep influence on us. This is what I guess, experience is. Peeping into the past lets ourselves articulate our actions for the coming future with more clarity. But, sometimes I feel experience is very over rated because, every situation, every decision we make and then every consequence coming out of it is almost essentially different. Presence of mind rather than experience plays more vital role in shaping our lives. Relying heavily on experience to take actions without much analysing present circumstances sometimes can be more damaging than a reckless decision. It is very tough to every time put substantial amount of thought procedure every time we make a judgment but, this needs to be done on key situations rather than just recalling past and making the choice. Maybe experience is the best teacher but, a teacher doesn’t write answers during the actual examination. We need to understand every time is fundamentally a different time. Experiences, memories are good to reminisce upon but, counting on them every time to deliver in the present is not the best approach. No two situations or two choices to make can ever be identical, there’s always some contextual nuance different which may have a huge impact in the consequences these two times.

Passing on one’s own experience as a suitable advice for else can be more flawed. Humans are a very gullible and frightened race on the whole. We are very easily influenced and difficult to accept changes. The undue advantage to experiences keep us away from exploring or taking some tough decisions in the present-day. Others’ experiences in the disguise of guidance take our decisions for us and then regret blossoms. It is also necessary to know as our own situations differ so does somebody else’s and ours. The more we lean on our past to decide our now, the more it becomes difficult for us to examine every situation independently. Whatever choice we made yesterday, however wrong or painful it felt at that time, we have still survived it today. So, it just doesn’t mean it will be alike today. Experiences must be like nails, should be cut off the unnecessary, kept only the essential part and never used to do actual work but only, to safeguard the vulnerable part of the fingers. They may act as a backdrop for a situation to start the breakdown of a situation but, must never be completely used to arrive at a conclusion. We must always remember our past but, never cling on to it moreover, use it to take important present resolutions. Any problem’s solution doesn’t always lie in the past but, lies in our ability to understand and take stringent action on it.
