On False Identities

On False Identities

A Poem by I Can't Believe They Said That!

A common lure in any art

Is to magnify oneself

Look at me, look at me

Be it a vampire, a fairy, or elf.

Music, paint, spoken word

These things add beauty to our world

But don't make the mistake

Of abusing the arts

To elevate you above the rest.

It's not about you,

or what you do

Your gifts are meant to be given-

So give them freely and without expectations

Of what it will do for you.

These are my own words. I'm quoting myself here in this review. I am an artist and I spent years making this very mistake. I thought it was all about me. I'll spare you the gory details, but after some hard lessons learned, I'm passionate today about the true meaning of art in all of it's forms~ writing, poetry, visual arts, music, drama...

What a dry world it would be if we didn't have these things to brighten our days. But people, don't abuse your talents to make yourself bigger, more poplular, or even wealthier! Yes that's what I said. Why not do it just to give? With a pure heart.

They say do what you love and the money will come to you. Do what you love. Give your gift. Don't abuse it.

Remember-

IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU.

Beautiful. It makes you stop and think about the people you know and their possibilities.
