Since You've Been GoneA Poem by Joshua McNayThe person that inspires me to write isn't around. This is just something I jotted down.I haven't written anything since you've been gone, I wish I knew what was going on. The words that used to flow so free, Suddenly seem to escape me. My mind feels like a blank slate, Started when you left the state. Do I need you that much? It isn't like we are out of touch. I talk to you almost everyday, So why then, does my urge to write, slip away? I feel lost at sea, like a ship with no captain, Floating around without a real sense of direction. I can still write as you can probably see, But the urge, the need to write, has gone from me. It's a scary thought to need someone as it seems I do, But you're my muse, I can't seem to write without you. Ideas still come this much I know, They are off track, no idea which way they go. Are they happy? Are they sad? This poetic confusion, is driving me mad! Trying to simplify this, doesn't to it justice, Not being able to write without you, can't be all there is. There must be something else holding me back, My time is up here, the curtains close, and it fades to black...
