Hour Glass

Hour Glass

A Poem by Jake Kokoris

I was in a strange house

needing a shower

I crept to the bathroom

except

they didn’t have a shower

they had only a tub

So i ran the warm water

and realized

the window was wide open

only

there was no shame in nakedness

I knew no one here

so I left it open

Late afternoon sun was giving way to dawn

A slight breeze

wafting around my exposed body

I gingerly stepped into the tub

laid back

and began to wash

There was a distinct smell

to the soap

One that stays

because  the influx of memories

in a foreign place

combined with a new smell

creates something permanent

I only say this

because I smelled

that soap at the store

last week

and

it reminded me

of all the time I had left.

This is an interesting poem. Why did it remind you of that?
