A story that never grew

A story that never grew

A Poem by JM Aytona
"

"For the people who missed their chance"

"

So i met this girl 4 years ago,

but only recently have i ever really knew who she was.

at first she was just like all the others,

and now she’s the meaning to my world.

we started out as friends and developed into something more.

she was a puzzle, a mystery i wanted to explore.

so i did, and all i found was a woman who was unsure of herself.

Like a toy forever sitting on the top of your shelf.

a girl left with regrets and ample heart-sore

with a wounded self-esteem she could not endure

i tried to make a difference, to become her cure

no matter how hard i tried, i knew we wouldn’t last,

i fell too hard too fast

but then i realized if she was gonna change

it would be on her own pace

all i could do was wait for her, just in case

but what if i waited too long, what if i got replaced?

so without second thoughts i took the leap of faith.

but i was too late, i couldn’t feel nothing but hate

but all of that changed when i saw the smile on her face

and i was lucky to be with her for just a moment in time

just wished right now she was mine.

she’s with someone else now, i wish her the best.

atleast with him loving her i guess i could rest

she’ll take care of him and he’ll take care of her too

thus ends our story that never grew.

The second line would read better as... "but only recently have I really known her"

It would set the entire poem up to read better. Only in my opinion of course... which is wrong quite frequently.
