The Lover's Game

The Lover's Game

A Poem by Drifter
"

Everyone's had a broken heart. This defends those who have unintentionally broken hearts because what goes around really does come around.

"
From dawns of days of years now passed,
The enemy is the same.
Songs that torment the soul of a lover’s lack,
We are the ones who will be blamed.
In the shoes of the scandals, leaving the scars,
Deception isn’t as evident as it seems to be.
Those eyes we’ll never forget, bit lips of sheer regret,
This here is just as hard to see.
Eyes on a prize, oblivious to distractions,
It’s hard to live with the things we’ve done.
While you’re sitting there broken, no words to be spoken,
Just know for us no battle’s been won.
‘tis never intended, despite all the sorrow,
The end result is a torn out heart.
We’ll move on much quicker, but choke on the guilt,
Knowing that we, too, had played a part,
Fraud in the eyes, but innocent inside,
In the end we hold the blame.
For the ones that deserve, the message returned,
The best ones lose at the lover’s game.

Hello. I am 17 years old and I live in a suburb of Phoenix, AZ. I don't know what people think of Arizona, but it's hot enough to sunburn the fair skinned kids after just a few minutes outside. I'm.. more..
