Oh, Sunflower, may I have this dance?

Oh, Sunflower, may I have this dance?

A Poem by Josie E. Cook M. A.
"

My love for sunflowers & art with the sun playing a role.

"

Oh, Sunflower, may I have this dance?

Oh, sunflower with the dark face

That seeks the sun's light,

You're a beauty of exquisite nature

Transforming before my eyes in size

And strength

Rumored to have special powers

In the ways of bringing luck,

Some people believe in this

Magic,

But, for me, you just make me

Happy when I gaze into your

Bright face,

A face, I try to recreate with my

Paints and brushstrokes

Like my favorite artist,

Vincent,

Though I haven't

Perfected you yet on the canvas

As he had,

And maybe he solved the mystery

Surrounding you.

How do you look east at dawn

to

Seek our sun?

And then turn towards the west

As the sun moves across our skies.

During the night,

You turn back to the east

And begin your cycle again.

Your maturity slows this

Moving process, oh, sunflower,

You're so much like us

Humans,

therefore I'm

Attracted to you. --J. E. Cook ©2017

Very nice....

An ode to the Sunflower, that expressive follower of the sun. Watching their movements in digital photography is a wonder to behold. It never ceases to amaze just how in tune they are with the Sun.

Enjoyed the references to Van Gogh and his art and the poem is very well concluded in those final lines; a happiness exudes from your words.

A lovely poem, well written as always. Well Done.
