Seaside Summer StrollA Poem by Josie E. Cook M. A.Friendship can be so wonderful...Seaside Summer Stroll
We walk side by side With our hands brushing against each other Until you take mine in yours tightly Almost like a hugging caress. We are on the sidewalk, passing the houses In this little seaside town, I feel like I'm inside a timeless painting Taking it all in with you, We turn down a brick walkway between Tall buildings Where big oaks have lifted some of the Bricks in the far corners between these two structures, the mortar cracked and split with age. White picket fences across the street Surround several spacious yards, Some gardens are riotous in these backyards or bordering The sides of colorful cottages Where blue rocking chairs are placed on wrap around Porches with ferns gracing them, Some houses are decrepit and crumbling From neglect and absence, Grass growing high with rusting cars hiding Close to back alleys, As children, next door play with plastic toys together in a sandbox And their dogs' bark as we go by, Instead of stopping we keep walking, And we only pause once we reach the local Library, Where we rest on a green metal bench under a sprawling tree that is providing us with cool shade As the summer sun beats down on our World. --J.
