Layne

Layne

A Poem by Josie E. Cook M. A.
"

My grandson...

"

Layne

On the day you turned three,

I woke up at five in the morning to snow

Softly falling,

And I remembered Lady Liberty and you

Share a birthday,

I remember seeing you for the first time

And holding you tightly in my arms as I

Gazed into those big eyes of wonder,

Your tiny fingers curling around mine

With a sense of security and love,

You were a bundle of sweetness and joy

For our family to share and cherish

Together,

I miss those days where you were so

Small and when you relied on us

To feed and care for you,

Now, you can do so much more on your

Own without our assistance,

You are growing up too fast,

I know you don't realize it,

Someday, you might…

For now, we will keep nourishing your

Growth and encouraging you,

Because someday soon,

You'll fly away on your own.--J. E. Cook © 2017

Beautiful tribute to motherhood (parenthood) as we so enjoy the smallness and delicacy of the newborn and watch them grow so fast. I think mine have taken on a whole different beauty even though they are now adults! Lovely sensitive write that captures the emotion and dilemma of the transitions.

Gee
It seems like yesterday I was left holding my daughter whilst her mother had post c section stitches. She is now near 17, beautiful, but far to independent. I fear we will soon be redundant.
Enjoyed your writing Josie
