Foolish notions in life

Foolish notions in life

A Poem by Josie E. Cook M. A.
"

Life changing...

"

Foolish notions in life

Leaves drop from the many trees

Leaving them oh so bare

To the coming winter,

Bones to freeze over

during these sharp

December short days,

Frozen breaths with ice

On the lakes,

An Impressionist dream,

As the falling colors

Drift down to cover

Everything in their path,

When the January coldness

arrives

Many lose their stamina

To exist or continue

Like a falling branch

A lone walker disappears

Into the cold rapids

Beyond the silent woods

Or the one that goes

To their barn with a rope

And quietly closes the doors

Tight behind them

Not returning to the cycles

Of this life

Because they're depressed

Living on the shabby side

Where others often ignore them,

The patterns will continue

As the wet autumn days

Return and the banks of

Our many

Rivers collect the dying leaves,

Expectations will suddenly

Return with the coming of spring

continuing into summer

Even if the squatter has

Nowhere to return to

During the rainy season

In April

As some of the dormant

Species return to their

Natural habitats of the season

In the everlasting cycles of

This world's

Change. "J. E. Cook ©2018

Amazing story of how winter prevails, some give up, & yet the cycles of life go on. Your words paint a dreary but realistic scenario I can really relate to, as winter drones on. With a blending of natural observations & those of people, it seems to normalize the way cycles are survived by some, but not by others. Your imagery is very well done! (((HUGS))) fondly, Margie

A wonderful poem dear friend. I agree with your words and your thoughts. The flow of nature. A necessary movement to keep her strong. Thank you Josie for sharing the amazing poetry.
