Rearview mirror

Rearview mirror

A Story by Jon Roggie

I just had to go pick up some filters for the air conditioner.
Get it out of the way,
and be lazy the rest of the day.
Plenty of leftovers,
so no need to worry about dinner.
Everything was going well,
and home is maybe fifty yards away.
Waiting for traffic to go by,
 before I make my turn.
Glance in the rearview.
Car is coming up pretty fast.
Thinking they should switch lanes.
 Still can't make my turn.
Realizing what is about to happen.
Third of the bumper torn away.
Rear panel scattered on the road.
Tire and rim are scrap.
Realizing she hit,
and could have opened up a full tank of gas.
Tomorrow,
I get to go to a clinic.
It will be quicker than the emergency room,
and might as well let the aches settle.
Let the shock move aside.
Time for the insurance companies to start their squabbles.
Meanwhile,
I can feel the aches starting to set in,
and will probably be worse in the morning.
One thing I did discover,
I seem to be hard to disturb.
Checked my blood pressure,
and since I walked the short distance from the wreck,
it might have had a chance to level out,
but I looked at my pulse.
88.
Open a beer,
 and watch a game.

Dude, it could be worse; as long as it didn't get really hot suddenly, you 're OK

Hard to judge. I am used to living in areas that will hit 120. Fun leaving footprints in the aspha.. read more
Are you quite sure you didn't die in the crash?

If so, I think I am in trouble. Nothing has changed!
