Vertical

Vertical

A Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)

We stand tall
Vertical
Like soldiers on a
Path
Of destruction
Destroying our
Chance
To survive
We follow the leader
Like sheep
Much to my demise
If we were horizontal more
Often
Lying down
At rest relaxed
Time to read and frown
Instead we traipse off vertical
Every day to work
No time for rest relax and play
So these mixed up feelings
Let it be
A blinded vertical
Or a horizontal figure
Lying cold and naked alone
Hungry begging
To be vertical
Just like you and me
The sheep
The leaders
We strain to see
Through blinded eyes
Forever vertical
Will I be?
