Moonlit Balloons

Moonlit Balloons

A Poem by Clara Kevie

Last week, I went to the party store and got some balloons,

I blew the red one up

And on parchment inside, I wrote to the moon.

I said, “if you can hear me

If you are listening

Just know I appreciate all that you do

And the light you shine forth onto me has meaning

No other star comes close to distracting

From your everlasting light.”

Last week, I went to the party store and got some balloons,

I waited for some moonlight.

As the sun took its last breath, I released the balloon

Then I swear I saw it sparkle.

Ascending, twinkling like starlight

Just as reflections on the underside of water.

The light of the moon framed it so justly.

No other star came close to distracting

From that warm and loving light

It rose so high

And into past the sky

Where science says it will pop

Because the atmosphere drops

But regardless, I hope

That the message is heard

And that the one it was meant for,

It’s what they want and more
