A Poem by Poe Met Emily

Disabled.
I won't tell you the reason why.
I won't tell you how I got to this point.
And I won't ever feel free.

The patterns,
the cycles,
the meltdowns
They're all normal to me now.

But if I tell you,
Then I am made weak,
vulnerable,
and misunderstood.

Beneath this, I am strong,
fighting,
and waging war though I am trapped
inside a body that remains sick.

I am more than a label,
but not enough to stop calling myself
by those terms.
I am my disability.
