Torn Between Two

Torn Between Two

A Poem by Courtney

Daughter of fire.

Daughter of ice.

The offspring of intellect

either way you toss the dice.

The child of Adam.

The child of Eve.

A replica of those sins,

but granted a reprieve.

Descendant of violence.

Descendant of grace,

who will never again

come face to face.

Born to the pair,

my sex a surprise,

a last-minute name,

a one-time comprimise.

Now twenty-five year

washed down the drain,

a fragile bond that broke,

now two children remain.

In our faces they see

what they'd like to forget:

qualities of the other

we couldn't help but inherit.

This one strikes a chord - you've captured the essence of family unit separation and the permanent legacies that come out of that situation. These lines are great:

"Born to the pair,
my sex a surprise,
a last-minute name,
a one-time comprimise."
