Cat

Cat

A Poem by Kringefest
"

Through the eyes of a cat.

"

Cat

I leap off a counter, pounce on the bookshelf,

I scream at the man who greets you every weekend.

I wonder why you let him in if he keeps making you cry,

And I'm jealous, so jealous, of him.

He gets to hug you and watch movies with you,

Sleep on the couch and eat last night’s leftovers.

He makes you forget all your pain, though he’s the one bringing it,

And I'm jealous, so jealous, of him.

I see him mistreat you and shout at you.

I see him raise a bulky fist and strike you twice.

You call him to apologize for something you never did,

And I'm jealous, so jealous, of him.

You told him you were pregnant with his child,

And anger shook the entire house.

He said he's just going to move right in; we’ll be family,

And I'm jealous, so jealous, of him.

It's been three days and I have not yet eaten,

So I sit by the window, watching the man stumble.

He’s gulping down his sour swill,

And I'm jealous, so jealous, of him.

I don't understand the concept of death,

But they say the cause of death was brain trauma.

I don't understand why he seems to not care,

And I'm jealous, so jealous, of him.

Today I realized you will never come back,

And the man who loves you doesn't leave.

He sleeps on your bed, kisses your photos,

And I'm jealous, so jealous, of him.

Today I heard a very loud bang,

And something red splattered on the walls.

The man has just gone to see you,

And I'm jealous, so jealous, of him.

I am alone and so, so hungry,

And no one ever comes to save me.

I wish to see you soon, in the place that I can’t quite see,

For I know, only there, you are truly free.

Your welcome
Wow. That was intense and incredibly written. Stories always take on a unique quality when written through the eyes of an inhuman narrator. Thank you for sharing.

About
Why do we credit fantasy when the realism here gives us the beauty and interest we could ever wish to see? Ergo, fantasy is not my top genre. I like realistic fiction, however, but it may go overboard.. more..
