Too Close

Too Close

A Poem by Eve
"

It was almost the end. It was way too close to the end.

"
She had drink after drink
And he got higher than the sun
They giggled and laughed
At their little movie

I wrote in my notebook
Filling page after page
Wondering if he'll ever stop being angry at me
Hoping it'll be soon

He closed the barn door
So no one would notice
He found an old sheet on the top loft
Tied it in a loop
The perfect size

She finished her whiskey bottle
He filled the room with smoke
The movie has ended
Sleep slowly takes them

I drop my pen
Anger at him overwhelming
I hate him
Even when we're so far away
I say good riddance to what we had
And slam my notebook closed

He puts the noose around his neck
And steps off the chair

She forgot he was there
I hated him
He found a sheet

Too close
I tell him everyday
Too close
He begs her for help
Too close
And she turns away

It won't be long now
Before the barn door opens again

Destructive forces at play. Sad state of affairs. It happens.

A somber story of pain and neglect.a slow burn that flashes into fire then turns into ashes.
Bleak but intriguing to read
