Relapse

Relapse

A Poem by Nami Machae

When I was a child I saw a man
with bloodshot eyes and bloodied clothes
When I asked him what happened
He simply smiled and replied
"We do what we can for the monster"

I saw that man a few years later
With crystal eyes and ironed clothes
When I asked how he was
He frowned and replied
"I'm in a war with the monster"

I saw that man again today
On the front page of the newspaper
With bloodshot eyes and bloodied clothes
I didn't get to ask what happened
Because I already knew
He lost the war with the monster

This piece fills me with sorrow. I love the way it was told. Sometimes people end up struggling with demons within and it overwhelms. This is a nice read though. Thank you for sharing it!

This is so pretty, and also so tragic. It's a very well written piece, and I like how you haven't named any specifics with this man's monster. Also the repetition has a great effect of reinforcing how crippling and lasting the effects of such demons and addictions are. Very simple, but extremely powerful because of that. Great work. ♥
