Parting

Parting

A Poem by Lily
"

Not being able to express your emotions.

"
He said "I will try to live for two more years".
She knew he was thinking of more than two years,
of the uncertainty ahead,
so she tried to smile back,
and let him have his dignity
but failed.
They slept with a wall between them
so she could 'gather her thoughts'
but what were her thoughts
but of him.
When they parted it was fast,
no tears
only silent praying for success.
If only she had cried, she thought on the train home,
then perhaps he would
have held her close, in his thin frame,
let her share his burden although her own suffering
was already too much to bear.

I hope you will interpret something from this! Just a warning, I'm a rookie at poetry though.

Rookies are the best writers, and this is an excellent rendition of an emotional situation, and thanks for adding it!
Sadly, it perfectly reflects what this tragedy must have felt like at the time for these characters.
Which makes it strong in both its emotional resonance in the reader which doubly enhances the impact of the intimate severity it describes.
We know its directive, the ending is explained at the beginning, and this emphasizes, unerringly, the not distant, dismal, final mortal extinguishing.
I have sorrow for the characters in this story, with the kind of empathy that comes from having their pains and inabilities caused by the grief of a terminal disease reflected in a most poignant method.
It may also be read purely as the loss of connectivity between a man and woman who have no way to reconnect with one another until their relationship sadly ends, as it seems so many sadly must. Thanks for sharing it.
That's all my opinion is capable of at 3.46 AM!
