i've been a pen pal to serial killers.

if you're clever and studied -

oh, the things that they will say,

to you.

there's a cold logic behind it.

everything that they do. . . 

        even just writing, to a stranger.

there's a complete darkness, in real life,

incarnate. . . when you read it.

knowing,

that in the flesh alive and commonly breathing,

locked away,

but still there is your author. . .  a f*****g murderer.

capable of things

 - no one can know -

but everyone must understand . . .

that they sound just like you and me.

a perfectly manufactured

      situational empathy

that feels... so completely real.

(that's how they getcha)

when they ain't locked away,

and just playing pen pals with a freak.
