A Poem by Mrs Mania

I wrote this poem, "Shadow," on July 16, 2016.

By: Paige Taylor

What ever happened to my dreams?
Everything I have ever worked for
Is falling apart; or so it seems.
Every ounce of blood
Every sweat
Every tear
Has been covered from the flood.
I know not where to begin from here.
I take another step forward,
Only to taste my own fear.
I guess this was how I was meant to live:
Sleep, and repeat.
I have officially fallen victim to society.
Every day is the same,
"We are not who we say we are."
We look in the mirror,
Only to see a clone of who we never were.
Your nonsense,
Is filling my lungs with nothing but lies.
Behind the smoke,
I see you hiding
I see right through your disguise.
You take our hope,
Only to replace it with an endless doubt.
But of course, who am I to speak?
I am just a shadow of myself.
When you look in the mirror,
Do you see yourself? Or do you see someone else?
Do you see who you are? Or who you want to be?
Or do you see what they all made you out to be?
Until you see the beauty in imperfection,
You will never know the meaning
Of true dedication.
