A Poem by Lizzy B
"

One of my old sonnets back in my dark, nobody understands me days. My writing has changed since than, but I feel like this poem in particular really captures how I was feeling at the time.

"
Isolated from the horrors I know.
My only company the distant stars,
Disillusioned by the thought of a foe,
Too many open wounds, too many scars.

My gleeful extroversion has long passed,
Leaving me a cynical, empty soul,
Like Mount Vesuvius' violent blast
Infuriation takes over control.

Oh sadness, despair, my two closest friends!
You give no enlightenment of wisdom,
You've murdered my God, brought hope to an end,
Earth be my master, be my religion!

You've provided me with life up till now
Nourish my heart and your land I shall sow.

Don't worry about the grammar. I know it's shitty. Thanks folks, be brutal.

I think it shows hope amid the darkness. Your title blurb indicates you've moved on and the poem itself points the way.

Nothing s****y about it Lizzy. It's good work.

This is very overwrought. As an adult (and Psychology teacher) I wonder whether "gleeful extroversion" wasn't a brand of cynicism anyway, just inverted to avoid the draining effects. If everything is BRILLIANT, then nothing is particularly good. If everyone is WONDERFUL, then humanity is nothing but arms and legs and eyes that wave and blink at you, equally all-so-good and all-so-lovely.

A life based on virtue must prize only the higher things, which are rare indeed, and maybe impossible.

I like the sonnet. It is strong and direct. Many lines stood out in the poem.
"Like Mount Vesuvius' violent blast
Infuriation takes over control."
I like the ending a lot.
"Earth be my master, be my religion!"
Thank you for sharing the excellent poem.
