The Offering

The Offering

A Poem by Lauren Burch
"

Why the dead never scream

"

My eyes are lifeless to you

In a coffin known as me

My heart has been cut in two

My soul’s been left to bleed

The air is no longer warm

The trees, they taunt the living

Those with lives, they taunt the dead

The dead, they keep on giving

My clearing in the woods is hidden

My wooden cross lies buried

The screams of my terrors underground

Only add to my growing fury

If only I hadn’t tried to fix it

Then maybe I’d be living

The butterfly soul is happy

I’m dead, I keep on giving
